OctPoWriMo 15 - So Wrong

I thought I knew the truth,

But I was oh so wrong.

I didn’t have a clue.

I thought I knew the truth,

But then I saw anew,

And I learned I am strong.

I thought I knew the truth,

But I was oh so wrong.

OctPoWriMo 30- Right and Wrong

Today's prompt asked us to write about a social issue that is important to us. I make no apologies for my poem, but be warned: I didn't pull any punches.

Right and Wrong

Don’t like slavery? Don’t buy one.
Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one.
Don’t like murder? Don’t commit one.
But don’t you dare tell me what to do!
Now, wait just a doggone minute!
What if I want to kill you?
What if I want to enslave you?
We can tell others what to do.
Sometimes, we must.
There is such a thing as right and wrong.
There is such a thing as good and evil.
There are absolutes.
What is right for me is also right for you.
The truth doesn’t care what you think of it.
It doesn’t matter what you say or do, the truth is still the truth.

The Truth is the Truth

In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
George Orwell

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
Arthur Schopenhauer

Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.
Mahatma Gandhi

The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.
James A. Garfield

No matter how many times you tell a lie, it doesn't become true. If you don't believe that, it doesn't really matter. The truth doesn't care what you think of it. As Ghandi said (quoted above), the truth is the truth. Believing doesn't make something true; it's either true or it's not all on its own. This is why I kind of hate movies where the magic doesn't work unless enough people believe in it. Could I walk on air if enough people believed I could? Hollywood tells me I can.
