OctPoWriMo 16 - Done With Time

Prompt: Father Time
Form: Blitz

Done With Time

Hurry, hurry, run, run, run
Hurry, getting nothing done
Done. I’m gonna stop this pace
Done with this rat race
Race I never signed up for
Race for nothing. I need more
More of life and more of peace
More joy before I cease
Cease living on my feet
Cease dancing to time’s beat
Beat the clock? Impossible
Beating gravity’s much more possible
Possible is relative
Possible’s not definite
Definite time will go on
Definitely, ‘til all’s gone
Gone, for time is not that kind
Gone out of sight and out of mind
Mind you, time can also heal
Mind and heart from all ordeal
Ordeals are long but not constant
Ordeals will end and I’m content
Content to stop and smell the roses
Content that time is never frozen
Frozen into crystalled ice
Frozen can seem nice
Nice that things are not declining
Nice and lifeless, fixed and shining
Shining in the stagnant sun
Shining ‘til it comes undone
Done with growing, changing, learning
Done, but no: the world keeps turning
Turning every day to night
Turning darkness into light
Light is truth, light is a liar
Light is life and light is fire
Fire warms and fire kills
Fire isn’t for cheap thrills
Thrills and chills and pounding heart
Thrills are sweet and thrills are tart
Tart and sassy, smart and sharp
Tart and brassy, cheeky harp
Harp will sing at break of dawn
Harping on and on forever
Forever is outside of time
Forever is the all of time
Time is nothing—it’s not real
Time is all: trapped in the wheel
Wheel…
Real...

OctPoWriMo 8 - Details to Take

Details to Take

Madness to this method
Madness in the details
Details keep me busy
Details help me see
See beyond the big
See the little things
Things that are important
Things that keep me sane
Sane within the madness
Sane? Well, I don’t know
Knowing is believing
Knowledge is a power
Power in a powder keg
Power in a tiny spark
Sparks are flying
Sparkling in the dark
Darkness flees before the light
Darkness covers, helps me hide
Hide from those who would devour
Hide from hurt
Hurt people hurt people
Hurt me and I’ll rise up stronger
Stronger, angry, cloaked in fury
Stronger, standing with my sisters
Sisters from all tongues and nations
Sisters, everyone together
Together we take back the night
Together we will rise
Rise up though you may feel defeated
Rise again though crucified
Crucified by friends and brothers
Crucified and left to die
Die, all those who would betray us
Die and fall before our fury
Fury blazing ever brighter
Fury stoked by Judas kiss
Kiss that we did not consent to
Kiss my fist
Fist I’m learning how to use
Fist of fire
Fire you are feeding
Fire rising, growing
Growing stronger with resistance
Growing more and more
More—yes, we want more
More, and we will take
Take what we deserve
Take what we are owed
Owed…
Deserve...

OctPoWriMo 12 - Sing of Care

Today's prompt is strong. I decided to challenge myself today. I really love the Blitz poem form, but I've written so many of them they're kind of getting easy. So I wrote a rhyming Blitz poem today. It was a lot of fun, and I think the lines flow even more quickly and smoothly than in a non-rhyming Blitz.

Sing of Care

Hear me roar
Hear me sing
Sing of war
Sing of flying
Flying far
Flying high
High until I touch a star
High and loud my battle cry
Cry at night upon my bed
Cry until my eyes are red
Red the blood of angry men
Red a world about to dawn
Dawn the sun will rise again
Dawn the night is gone
Gone is dark and cold
Gone are dreams and goals
Goals have changed
Goals now exchanged
Exchanged for better things
Exchanged and gained
Gained now are my wings
Gained where once was chained
Chained and weighted down
Chained no longer now
Now I wear a crown
Now I do not bow
Bow only to pray
Bow not to men
Men will all betray
Men and also women
Women are the same
Women share the blame
Blame gets tossed around
Blame will help no one
One way we can be found
One way we can outrun
Outrun our weakened flesh
Outrun and find our home
Home where we’re refreshed
Home no more to roam
Roaming is a chore
Roam the wilds no more
More time to rest
More love to share
Share your best
Share and care
Caring is strong
Care will be your song
Strong...
Song...

OctPoWriMo 13 - Love Will Be

Today's prompt asks us to write about risks we are willing to take, and suggests using the blitz form. This is one of my favourite poetry forms, so I had to take up the challenge. Instead of writing about risks I might/will take, I wrote about a risk I took seven years ago: on September 1, 2008, I asked my best friend if he wanted to be my boyfriend. This year, we celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. So that risk worked out well, I think. ;)

Love Will Be

I had waited
I had dreamed
Dreamed of love
Dreamed of forever
Forever I would be with him
Forever we would love
Love is patient
Love is blind
Blind to signs that all could see
Blind to feelings, leaving fear
Fear of rejection
Fear of being open
Open up my mouth
Open up my heart
Heart so full of love
Heart so full of hope
Hope like a tiny flickering flame
Hope that flared at his response
Response that fulfilled my every wish
Response set my heart ablaze
Ablaze with feeling
Ablaze with joy
Joy that never yet has waned
Joy that took me to the church
Church with friends and family
Church where we became one
One flesh
One soul
Soul mate was just a word before
Soul mate is my husband now
Now we have woven our lives together
Now we are one soul in two bodies
Bodies that once were separate
Bodies that yearn to touch
Touch my heart
Touch my hand
Hands entwined
Hands so strong
Strong and able to keep me safe
Strong, yet gentle
Gently holds me
Gently gives his best
Best lover
Best friend
Friends we are
Friends we will always be
Be together
Be forever
Forever
Together

OctPoWriMo 25 - Unseen yet Alive

Today's prompt is magic, and one of my favourite poems is Leonard Cohen's "God is Alive, Magic is Afoot,' which reminds me of the blitz form with some variations. So I wrote a blitz poem inspired by it.

Unseen yet Alive

Magic is alive
Magic is believing
Believing in the unseen
Believing you can fly
Fly me to the moon
Fly, fly away
Away from all my problems
Away from all my troubles
Troubles follow me
Troubles help me see
See what is important
See the magic
Magic kingdom
Magic gathering
Gathering together
Gathering the hunt
Hunt for red October
Hunt the dragon
Dragon heart of fire
Dragon heart of flame
Flame that burns so brightly
Flame that lights the night
Night of wondrous beauty
Night of mist and shadows
Shadows reaching for me
Shadows flee the light
Light of wonder
Light of love
Love is all you need
Love is magic
Magic is afoot
Magic’s in the air
Air is all around us
Air, water, fire
Fire, water, earth
Fire, earth, water
Water falling softly
Water rolling waves
Waves of rolling billows
Wave goodbye
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to yesterday
Yesterday I heard the rain
Yesterday I knew the song
Song of love
Song of magic
Magic is alive
Magic is afoot
Afoot…
Alive...

OctPoWriMo 7: Death and Cold

Today's prompt.

Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame. ~Benjamin Franklin

“I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead; every single one of them. Not just the men, but the women and children too…" ~Anakin Skywalker

Fear leads to anger
Fear leads to death
Death came for his mother
Death gave him power
Power for revenge
Power to kill
Kill them
Kill them all
All of them are dead
All of them—even the children
Children who had barely lived
Children who were innocent
Innocent he used to be
Innocent he is no more
More pain
More darkness
Darkness closes in
Darkness whispers promises
Promises of power
Promises of comfort
Comfort from his dreams
Comfort for his fears
Fears that he can’t save her
Fears that he is helpless
Helpless to protect her
Helpless like before
Before, just like his mother
Before, he was too late
Late at night, he dreams
Late again
Again his fear overcomes him
Again he looks to anger
Anger gives him focus
Anger gives him strength
Strength to do what needs done
Strength to see the truth
Truth that she betrayed him
Truth that he’s alone
Alone against his friend
Alone and broken
Broken in and out
Broken, wounded, burning
Burning alive
Burning forever
Forever alone
Forever cold
Cold as ice
Cold and dark
Dark...

Ice...

Let's Not Blink - A Dr Who Fan Poem

This is a blitz poem. It is meant to be read aloud, quickly, hardly stopping for breath.

Let's go
Let's travel
Travel through space
Travel through time
Time Lord
Time War
Warring nations
Warring worlds
Worlds destroyed
Worlds saved
Saved from burning
Saved by the doctor
Doctor what?
Doctor who?
Who is he?
Who cares?
Cares for friends
Cares for enemies
Enemies who destroy
Enemies who try
Try to kill him
Try his patience
Patience like Job
Patience not endless, though
Though he is ancient
Though he is endless
Endless through changing time
Endless through changing face
Face of Bo
Face of woe
Woe to those who attack the Earth
Woe to those who threaten death
Death must come to all who live
Death is coming: Run!
Run from daleks
Run from drumbeats
Drumbeats sounding in the brain
Drumbeats knocking on the door
Door is locked—he knocks four times
Door that he must choose
Choose to let another die
Choose to give his life
Life is precious
Life is brief
Brief like a blink of an eye
Brief—don't blink!
Blink and you're gone
Blink and you're dead
Dead...
Gone...

OctPoWriMo 21 - Smug and Little

Smart mouthed
Smart and smug
Smug guy
Smug that he is wise
Wise guy
Wise in his own eyes
Eyes that close
Eyes that don’t see
See reality
See the truth
Truth is not opinion
Truth is more than mere science
Science cannot prove anything
Science cannot explain everything
Everything is not yet dreamt of
Everything is more than your philosophy
Philosophy cannot dream
Philosophy cannot love
Love is immeasurable
Love is all you need
Need begets desperation
Need tells us we cannot do it alone
Alone and lonely
Alone forever
Forever and ever
Forever is real
Real and true
Real like facts
Facts and figures
Facts can mislead
Mislead us to destruction
Mislead our hearts
Hearts are delicate
Hearts can be broken
Broken sometimes helps us
Broken before rebuilding
Rebuilding our lives
Rebuilding our hope
Hope springs eternal
Hope, love, and faith
Faith lets us see
Faith gives us answers
Answers to our questions
Answers let us know
Know that we are meant for more
Know that we know little
Little thoughts
Little feelings
Thoughts...
Feelings...

OctPoWriMo 20 - Normal can Change

Today, I discovered a poetry form called The Blitz Poem, and I decided to write one.

Weird is good
Weird is normal
Normal is a lie
Normal is boring
Boring like no colour
Boring like vanilla
Vanilla gets a bad rap
Vanilla needs better press
Press a button
Press your clothes
Clothes make the man
Clothes make the woman
Woman will fight
Woman will roar
Roar for her rights
Roar for her children
Children grow up
Children leave home
Home is where the heart lives
Home is where I loosen up
Up to the rooftops
Up to the mountains
Mountains where the Yeti walks
Mountains where the snow falls
Falls on the fir trees
Falls on the cities
Cities full of noise
Cities full of life
Life is a mystery
Life is weird
Weird is what I am
Weird is different
Different is good
Different is power
Power to reach out
Power to change
Change isn’t easy
Change needs you
You can be a lighthouse
You can be a star
Star twinkle twinkle
Star light star shine
Shine in the darkness
Shine before men
Men can be different
Men can change
Change is good
Change is hard
Hard...
Good...
